I made this skirt from a scarf I bought at H&M. I absolutely loved the fabric design on the scarf but I didn’t really wear lightweight scarves like that very often and It was a shame that the parrots couldn’t really be seen with the scarf on so I decided it would make a nice skirt.
The scarves were only about $10, so I bought 2 so I would have more freedom placing the parrots where they looked best. I used the Jenny basic skirt pattern from Burdastyle. Because the material was so floaty, I adjusted the pattern so the skirt goes straight down, instead of tapering in like a pencil skirt, eliminating the need for a vent as well as giving it a little more movement. I also made the waistband very thin and added some black trim to make it more interesting. I lined the whole thing in a thin green poly lining. The hems of both are finished with a thin baby hem.
I actually got the parrots just how I wanted and didn’t have to touch the second scarf! So the skirt cost not much more than $10, and I actually kind of like the scarf and wear that too, though definitely not together!
